The first C295 for India has successfully completed its maiden flight, marking a significant milestone towards its delivery by the second half of 2023. The Rostec United Engine Corporation has successfully completed the bench testing program for the first prototype of the PD-8 engine. The US defence major Lockheed Martin considers F-21, as the perfect aircraft to team with the Indian Air Force (IAF) future fighter aircraft fleet.
“It is the perfect complement to the current fleet of Rafale and Tejas aircraft in terms of operational performance,” said Brett A. Medlin, F-21 India Campaign Lead, Lockheed Martin.
Recently, India has deployed K-9 Vajra, self-propelled artillery on the Indo-China Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Northern area of Ladakh. The much talked about K9 Vajra – based on K9 Thunder – is the latest artillery gun to join Indian Army. India is expected to buy more of these guns.

Russia’s famed small arms manufacturer Kalashnikov Concern, on Thursday, published a video on twitter of firing of AKV-521 semi-automatic carbine kept at -50 degree Celsius.
During the test, the carbine successfully fired a full magazine of frozen rounds. The carbine is being tested for performance parameters for Russian winter and arctic conditions. During test, the body of the gun did not show any adverse impact from frozen firing condition.
The much talked about Indian proposal for purchase of additional MiG-29 and Su-30 MKI fighters from Russia is yet to see negotiation. Russia has submitted its proposal for 21 MiG-29 to Indian Air Force and is awaiting initiation of the purchase procedure, Russian media reported.

The German Bundeswehr has ordered 31 NH90 NFH helicopters, to be known as Sea Tiger, for the German Navy’s shipborne operations. Amidst the ongoing crisis in the Caucasus region, Turkey, during a military drill, first time fired the Russian-made S-400 air defense missile systems. The drill was held near Sinop in the Northern Turkey, reports Russian news agency TASS.
"Three missiles of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system were launched. All of them successfully hit the designated targets," Tass reports.

Mi-26T2 is an upgraded version of the Mi-26T heavy transport helicopter. It has received modern avionics, enabling operations at any time of the day, in adverse weather conditions and overterrain that lacks landmarks for orientation. The upgrade has also allowed reducing crew to 3 persons.

RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. posts its financial results today (Thursday) for FY 2019, amid the COVID-19 global crisis, with record sales of $2.7 billion, an increase of %3.9 compared to 2018. The company's orders totaled $2.8 billion (10 billion Shekels), with record high export orders, and an order backlog of $7.2 billion (24.8 billion Shekels), equivalent to 2.5 sales years, despite the significant depreciation in the Dollar- and Euro-to-Shekel exchange rates.

There is good news on the S-400 front for India. A top Russian official in an interview has said that Russia will complete the delivery S-400 by 2024.

Russian Helicopters presents modernised Ansat
Russian Helicopters Holding Company (part of Rostec State Corporation) presented a concept of the modernized light Ansat helicopter at the International Paris Air Show 2019. The machine has new design solutions and options which will be introduced into serial production in the coming years. Two helicopters – one for medical and another for civil applications – are on static display near the Chalet area.

In a bizarre twist of tale, a leading defence website with focus on Middle East and North Africa, on Monday, quoting a face book page reported crash of Egyptian Rafale fighter jet in leading to the death of the pilot of the aircraft.
“According to the Facebook account @DefensAero, the crash occurred today in Egypt and involved a Rafale. The pilot, one of the first trained in France says the publication, would have died in the accident,” menadefense.net reported.
Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) certified the increase in take-off/landing altitude of Ansat helicopter to 3,500 m. Major change approval is issued on the basis of trials conducted in summer 2018 at Mount Elbrus. The document allows Ansat to operate in high-altitude conditions.

Indian Air Force (IAF) has restarted its two decades old quest for replacement of decades-old Russian fighter jets through a competitive tender. IAF is still relying on the Russian single engine MiG-21s and twin-engine MiG-27s. These aircraft are still part of the IAF’s inventory even when most of the air forces have retired them. On December 28, 2023, DGA awarded Naval Group a framework agreement for the design, production and testing of an Unmanned Combat Underwater Vehicle (UCUV) demonstrator. A first follow-on contract was also signed for the design and development of Naval Group’s Autonomous Decision-Making Process (ADMP) and secure autonomous navigation.
The DGA announced the order for 109 CAESAR 6x6 MkII, a new version currently under development. Thanks to this order planned in the 2024-2030 defence programming law (LPM), the CAESAR 6x6 MkII will first replace the AUF1 self-propelled howitzer at the end of its operational service and gradually phase out the CAESAR 6x6 MkI of the army. The French artillery will thus have an unprecedented capability since the introduction of the CAESAR 6x6 system in 2008. This order also includes support for the CAESAR MkII during their first two years of use.
