DPSUs Complete 26 of 61 AI projects

To study the whole gamut of issues surrounding strategic implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in national security perspective, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Department of Defence Production (DDP) set up a multi-stakeholder Task Force in March 2018 under the Chairmanship of Sh. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons. The Task Force submitted its report in June 2018. Following were the major recommendations of the Task Force:

 

GSL to make 8 FPBs for Coast Guards

Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for construction of eight Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard at a total project cost of Rs 473 crore. The contract was signed by Joint Secretary (Maritime & Systems) Shri Dinesh Kumar and Chairman & Managing Director, GSL Cmde BB Nagpal (Retd) in New Delhi on March 28, 2022.

DRDO test Army Version of MRSAM

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two successful flight tests of the Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 27, 2022. The flight tests were carried out as part of the live firing trials against high-speed aerial targets. The missiles intercepted the aerial targets and destroyed them completely, registering direct hits at both the ranges.

DAC Approves Proposals worth 8,357 cr

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), in its meeting of 22nd March 2022 held under the Chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for Capital Acquisition proposals of Armed Forces amounting to Rs 8,357 crore. As an impetus to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, all of these proposals have been approved under ‘Buy (Indian IDDM)’ category with focus on indigenous design & development and manufacturing in India.

L&T Signs Contract with Navy for Multi-Purpose Vessels

Ministry of Defence has signed a contract on March 25 with M/s Larsen & Toubro Ltd. for acquisition of Two Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs) for Indian Navy at an overall cost of Rs.887 Crore under “Buy-Indian” Category. The contract was signed in the presence of VAdm SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and Pankaj Agarwal, Additional Secretary & Director General Acquisition.

President's Colour to INS Valsura

Ram Nath Kovind, the Hon’ble President of India presented the prestigious President’s Colour to INS Valsura on 25th Mar 2022.   The 'Nishan Adhikari'  Lt Arun Singh Sambyal received the President’s Colour on behalf of the unit, in an impressive parade.  The unit paraded a  150 men Guard of Honour for Hon’ble President of India.  Over 800 Officers and men of INS Valsura, looking spectacular in their ceremonial dresses, marched proudly to the tunes of the Naval Band.

IOC Signed Between HAL and PHL For Helicopter Lease

An Intent of Cooperation (IOC) was signed between HAL and PHL for purchase or long term lease for 20 helicopters, 10 each civil variants of ALH Dhruv and Light Utility Helicopters at the ongoing Wings India-2022 at Hyderabad.  This would also bring  synergy between HAL and PHL in helicopter ecosystem and strengthen helicopter business in India’s civil aviation market.
