DPSUs Complete 26 of 61 AI projects

To study the whole gamut of issues surrounding strategic implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in national security perspective, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Department of Defence Production (DDP) set up a multi-stakeholder Task Force in March 2018 under the Chairmanship of Sh. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons. The Task Force submitted its report in June 2018. Following were the major recommendations of the Task Force:

 

GSL to make 8 FPBs for Coast Guards

Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for construction of eight Fast Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard at a total project cost of Rs 473 crore. The contract was signed by Joint Secretary (Maritime & Systems) Shri Dinesh Kumar and Chairman & Managing Director, GSL Cmde BB Nagpal (Retd) in New Delhi on March 28, 2022.

IOC Signed Between HAL and PHL For Helicopter Lease

An Intent of Cooperation (IOC) was signed between HAL and PHL for purchase or long term lease for 20 helicopters, 10 each civil variants of ALH Dhruv and Light Utility Helicopters at the ongoing Wings India-2022 at Hyderabad.  This would also bring  synergy between HAL and PHL in helicopter ecosystem and strengthen helicopter business in India’s civil aviation market.

BEL issues EoI for indigenisation of LRUs

Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has published Expression of Interests (EoIs) for indigenisation of major Line Replacement Units (LRUs) used in Defence systems on the National Informatics Centre (NIC) portal. Indian vendors, including MSMEs and start-ups, who wish to participate may visit the BEL e-procurement portal at https://eprocurebel.co.in/nicgep/app.

BEL-AAI to develop Air Traffic Systems

In a major boost to its own diversification drive into non-defence and the Government’s ‘Make in India’ programme, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Airports Authority of India (AAI), under it’s R&D initiative, at Wings India- 2022, has entered into an agreement for the joint, indigenous development of systems for air traffic management and surface movement of aircraft at airports in the country which were hitherto being imported.

DRDO Develops Monolithic Microwave ICs

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) have been used in radar imaging satellite modules of EOS 04, which was launched by ISRO on 14th Feb 2022. Many of the Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMIC) were designed/ developed and produced at Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL) DRDO and Gallium Arsenide Enabling Technology Centre (GAETEC) foundry of DRDO.

Andamand & Nicobar Command inducts ALH MK III

In a boost to maritime security, the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK III aircraft was formally inducted at INS Utkrosh by Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) Lieutenant General Ajai Singh at Port Blair on January 28, 2022. As the rotor blades of the versatile helicopter cut through the air, aircraft were ceremonially welcomed into ANC with a traditional water cannon salute. The induction marks a continuing increase in the capabilities of the A&N Command in the past two decades of its raising as India’s only joint theatre command. 

HSL delivers Last 50 ton Tug

Contract for construction of 50Ton Bollard Pull Tugs was concluded with  M/s Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Visakhapatnam in Feb 19. The Fourth tug in the series, “Balbir” has been delivered to Naval Dockyard, Mumbai on 24 Jan 22. These tugs have been designed and built under the classification rules of Indian Register for Shipping (IRS) with a service life of 20 years and are capable of assisting large naval ships, including Aircraft Carrier and Submarines in berthing, un-berthing, turning and manoeuvering in confined waters and in harbour.
