Contributing to naval and industrial autonomy in Egypt
Naval Group has a long-term partnership with the Egyptian authorities and industry. This strategic alliance is central in the maintenance and the modernisation of the Egyptian fleet and participates to the reinforcement of the Egyptian industry.
The Egyptian Navy operates the FREMM frigate Tahya Misr delivered in 2015, the two Landing Helicopter Docks Nasser and Sadat delivered in 2016 and the El Fateh, the first of class of the Gowind corvette series for Egypt, built in Lorient and delivered to Egypt in September 2017.
Several milestones have been celebrated in the past months for the Gowind® program thanks to the expertise and skills acquired by Alexandria Shipyard through a high level of fruitful cooperation with Naval Group. The Port Said corvette, first Gowind® to be built in Egypt thanks to a successful transfer of technology from Naval Group to Alexandria Shipyard, was delivered in January 2021. El Moez and Luxor, the last two corvettes built in Egypt are set to be delivered in 2022.
At the end of the construction process of the Gowind® corvettes, the Egyptian Navy’s fleet will include a total of seven of Naval Group’s most performant vessels.

The EDEX exhibition is an opportunity for Naval Group to show its rich experience in international naval ship building through advanced industrial cooperation programs. Naval Group will also showcase its leading technologies created for modern navies among which:
• Belh@rra® frigate
Belharra® is the new combat ship for naval supremacy and crisis management designed for navies looking for a compact frigate able to perform the largest range of missions stand-alone or within a task force either for high sea duration missions as for shallow water operation in congested and contested operational environment. capabilities in anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine and asymmetric warfare domains, taking into account French Navy operational legacy acquired in wartime situation.
The FDI, the first Belharra® frigate for the French Navy will be delivered in 2024 and a MoU was signed with Greece earlier this year to open discussions for 3 frigates and one in option.
• Scorpene® submarine
This submarine is capable of carrying out all types of missions, such as surface warfare, anti submarine warfare, special operations or intelligence gathering. It is extremely stealthy and fast, and is equipped by weapon launching tubes, and various weapons (torpedoes, missiles, mines).
Over fourteen Scorpene® submarines were sold by Naval Group to foreign customers and Indian and Brazilian submarines are being built locally thanks to a successful transfer of technology.
• F21 heavyweight torpedo
Benefiting of highly advanced mission system and very long endurance, F21 is the first heavyweight torpedo able to perform complex mission autonomously. It has far superior characteristics to any other heavyweight torpedo currently in service and is offered for export, strengthening Naval Group's submarine offering.
The F21 torpedo is equipped with a very high level of computing power, which gives it exceptional real-time processing capabilities, an advanced mission system and increased autonomy. These technical characteristics considerably broaden the possibilities of tactical use with an unparalleled capacity for target discrimination, even in very difficult environments
