PM Modi begins 50th anniversary celebrations of Indo-Pak War

In December 1971, the Indian Armed Forces secured a decisive and historic Victory over Pakistan Army, which led to creation of a Nation - Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest Military Surrender after the World War – II. From 16 December, the Nation will be celebrating 50 Years of Indo-Pak War, also called ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’. Various commemorative events are planned across the Nation.

Airbus quantum computing challenge helps advance sustainable flight

Airbus has concluded its global Quantum Computing Challenge (AQCC) announcing the winning team of the competition.  The Italian team at Machine Learning Reply - a leading systems integration and digital services company part of Reply Group - won the challenge with their solution to optimise aircraft loading.

Airlines try to make the best use of an aircraft’s payload capability to maximise revenue, optimise fuel burn and lower overall operating costs. However, their scope for optimisation can be limited by a number of operational constraints. 

Boeing Awarded U.S. Navy Contract for New Zealand P-8 Training

The U.S. Navy recently awarded Boeing a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract, valued at $109 million, to provide P-8A Poseidon training for the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). A suite of training systems and courseware will prepare RNZAF aircrew and maintainers to safely and effectively operate and maintain the world’s premier maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft for decades to come.

Defence co-operation is important in Indo-Maldives relations

Sanjay Jaju, Additional Secretary (DP), Ministry of Defence, Govt of India today said that India and Maldives share a very close, cordial and a multidimensional relationship. India occupies a pre-eminent position in the Maldives and in accordance with the Neighbourhood First policy of Govt of India, we remain committed as a developmental partner for a stable, prosperous and peaceful Maldives. “Regular scheduled high-level exchange of visits is providing a sustained impetus to the growing relationship between the two nations,” he added. 

Successful Trials of 5.56 x 30 mm Joint Venture Protective Carbine (JVPC)

Defence Research and Development Organsiation (DRDO) designed 5.56x30 mm Protective Carbine has successfully undergone the final phase of User trials on 7th December 2020 meeting all the GSQR parameters.  This has paved the way for induction into the services. This was the last leg of trials in a series of User trials which have been carried out in extreme temperature conditions in summer and high altitudes in winter. JVPC has successfully met the stringent performance criteria of reliability and accuracy in addition to quality trials conducted by DGQA.

BAE bags $184 m contract for Amphibious Combat Vehicle

BAE Systems’ Amphibious Combat Vehicle Family of Vehicles (ACV FOV) program has achieved its most significant milestone to date with the Marine Corps’ decision to move into full-rate production and award a $184 million contract for 36 vehicles. The ACV is an advanced, next generation vehicle for conducting ship-to-shore operations and effectively getting Marines into the fight.

Quantum Communication between two DRDO Laboratories

Secure communications are vital for defence and strategic agencies world over and distribution of encryption keys from time to time is an important requirement in this context. Sharing of keys over the air or wired links requires encryption, which in turn requires encryption keys to be pre-shared. Quantum based communication offers a robust solution to sharing the keys securely. Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) undertook the project for development of this technology.
