Weapon Workup Phase of TROPEX concluded

Indian Navy’s largest war game – the biennial Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX 21) - which commenced in early January, is currently underway with participation of all operational units of Indian Navy including ships, submarines, aircraft as well as units of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard.  The exercise will culminate by third week of February.

Titagarh Wagons wins Diving Support Craft contract

Adding another milestone to the Make in India initiative of the Government of India, a Contract for construction of five Diving Support Craft (DSC) was signed by Indian Navy with Titagarh Wagons, Kolkata, today . The contract envisages construction of five DSCs. Once commissioned, the DSC will meet the mission needs of Command Clearance Diving Teams (CCDTs) which are involved in providing diving assistance to all ships inside and close to harbour for underwater repair, maintenance and salvage.

Russia tests carbine capable of firing at -50 Celsius

Russia’s famed small arms manufacturer Kalashnikov Concern, on Thursday, published a video on twitter of firing of AKV-521 semi-automatic carbine kept at -50 degree Celsius.

During the test, the carbine successfully fired a full magazine of frozen rounds.  The carbine is being tested for performance parameters for Russian winter and arctic conditions. During test, the body of the gun did not show any adverse impact from frozen firing condition.

DRDO, IISc to create a Centre for Excellence

DRDO today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru for creation of JATP–Center of Excellence (JATP – CoE) in the premises of IISc to expand the scope and objective of existing Joint Advanced Technology Program. Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary DDR&D & Chairman DRDO and Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director IISc signed the MoU at a virtual event held in DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi.

India-Russia yet to start MiG-29 and Su-30MKI negotiation

The much talked about Indian proposal for purchase of additional MiG-29 and Su-30 MKI fighters from Russia is yet to see negotiation. Russia has submitted its proposal for 21 MiG-29 to Indian Air Force and is awaiting initiation of the purchase procedure, Russian media reported.

Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Vladimir Drozhzhov told TASS at the Aero India.

AeroIndia'21 - Day 2

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) said a few countries in South East Asia and West Asia have expressed interest in the 4.5 generation fighter aircraft, fitted with modern equipment – the light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas. The Chairman and Managing Director of HAL, R.Madhavan, addressing the media, however did not reveal the names of the countries which had shown interest in the LCA. 

AeroIndia’21 – Inauguration Day 1

On a warm bright day, leaving behind the grim reality of Covid-19, Aero India -21 gets a flying start at Yelahanka Air port, Bengaluru amidst the presence of delegates from 55 countries.

The presence of 540 exhibitor from across the globe in these difficult circumstances was a testimony to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for self-reliance in defence under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
