The recent border incidents at Ladakh, with the PLA intruding into the undemarcated line of actual control resulting into an eyeball to eyeball situation with the Indian Army, has woken up the mandarins in South Block to review the strategic preparedness of the nation and give the much languishing defence manufacturing industry in the country, the needed elixir to re-vitalise the otherwise defunct ‘Make in India’ initiative launched with much fanfare five years ago.
Indian Navy is looking for indigenously developed Lithium Ion battery to replace lead acid batteries fitted on its conventional submarines. A request for Information (RFI) was sent out looking for vendors capable of designing a Li-Ion battery of 5MW power to be fitted on existing and under construction submarines.
The RFI was released on October 28 and is valid till December 9.
Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh, on Thursday, said that Navy must have third aircraft carrier. “We are very clear that air power is integral to navy so air power is required. And it is required here and now,” navy chief said during his annual press conference ahead of Navy Day on December 4.
The fourth of December is celebrated every year as the Navy Day.
