HeliRussia-2020 Show Report
Moscow, Sept 18
Russia presents the latest from its helicopter industry
The Russian Helicopters holding (part of the Rostec State Corporation) have presented its civilian products at the XIII International Helicopter Industry Exhibition HeliRussia 2020, which was held at Crocus Expo IEC from September 15-17.
The holding's exposition features the Ka-32A11VS multipurpose helicopter and the light multipurpose Ansat with new optional equipment. Also at the exhibition are being presented a new SP-32 water tank designed for the modernized Ka-32A11M helicopters. As part of the modernization, it is planned to install new avionics, more powerful VK-2500PS-02 engines and an improved fire extinguishing system on the helicopter.
"The HeliRussia exhibition is an excellent opportunity for us to discuss with the participants of the Russian helicopter market all the issues that have accumulated over the year, to join forces in the face of new challenges. The COVID-19 epidemic has become one of them. For the industry, it is especially important to observe the safety of workers in continuous production, remote training of specialists and maintenance of equipment, the development of medical aviation and specialized options to effectively fight the coronavirus. That is why the specialists will focus on the Ansat light helicopter, certified for the installation of a special medical module and equipped with an expanded range of optional equipment, "said the CEO of the Russian Helicopters holding "Andrey Boginsky.
Ka-32A11VS
The Ka-32A11VS multirole helicopter is designed for special search and rescue operations, building tall structures, transporting cargo internally and on an external sling, logging, medevac and complex fire-fighting missions, as well as on patrol and to support during law enforcement operations.
Main features:
- Coaxial design and the absence of a tail rotor mean that it is compact, high power, highly manoeuvrable and very easy to handle.
- High load capacity – it can carry up to 5 tonnes on its external sling.
- It is equipped with the latest avionics systems.
- It is very economical – with low operating costs, and an extended service life of 32,000 flight hours.
The Ka-32A11BC can operate efficiently in dense urban areas, difficult to access mountainous and forested regions, and can also land on small vessels, drilling platforms, and on un-prepared, hard to access sites.
VK-2500PS engine used on Ka-32 helicopter family is the latest civilian modification of the VK-2500 engine, which is distinguished by anti-surge protection and a modern digital electronic control and monitoring system of the FADEC type. The overhaul and assigned resource of the engine is two times higher than that of its predecessors.
Mi-38 heavy utility helicopter
Also at the HeliRussia one of the operators has presented the brand-new Mi-38 heavy utility helicopter.
The multirole Mi-38 can carry cargo and passengers, including VIPs, and can also be used as a search-and-rescue helicopter and flying hospital, as well as for offshore missions.
The Mi-38 can operate in wide range of environments including maritime, tropical and freezing environments. This chopper is loaded with technologies which gives it superior payload, passenger capacity and other key performance indicators to other helicopters in its class.
Performance
Max. speed 300 km/h
Cruising speed 250 km/h
Max. range with main fuel tanks 880 km
Max. flight range with additional fuel tanks and 2,700 kg cargo 1200 km
Range with 5,000 kg cargo 420 km
Operational ceiling 5900 m
Hover ceiling (OGE) 3750 m
Max. take-off weight 15 600 kg
Max Payload in cabin 5000 kg
Mi-38 is fitted with the latest UEC-Klimov's turboshaft engines TV7-117V. The main advantages of this engine are its latest automatic control system, high power output at low fuel consumption, the ability to start and operate the engine at high altitudes, enhanced reliability and operatability in technically challenging conditions.
The design of TV7-117V engines provides for the possibility of operation in the ambient air temperature range from -60 ºС to +50 ºС. Stable operation of TV7-117V engines is ensured from flight altitudes of 300 m to 6500 m.
New options for the Ansat helicopter
The Russian Helicopters holding (part of the Rostec State Corporation) has presented the Ansat multipurpose helicopter fitted with additional equipment - an internal fuel tank and ballonets at the expo.
"The Ansat helicopter project is actively developing in accordance with the needs of our customers. We do not stand still and respond to the requests of partners, making our products more competitive and convenient in operation. By the end of the year, we plan to submit a new generation Ansat prototype for testing. In addition to a wide range of optional equipment, this helicopter will receive an upgraded fuel system with increased capacity, the latest avionics for instrument flights, as well as a lightweight fuselage with expanded use of composite materials", said Russian Helicopters CEO Andrei Boginsky.
Ansat's emergency landing system is designed to keep the helicopter afloat in the event of an emergency landing on water. Ballonets provide buoyancy of the helicopter for 30 minutes. The kit includes inflatable ballonets, two life rafts and an emergency life support kit (including a radio beacon for locating the aircraft by rescuers). Equipping with this system will allow Ansat to fly to the facilities of oil companies located at a considerable distance from the coast, and to participate in offshore search and rescue operations. The Federal Air Transport Agency certified the installation of an emergency splashdown system on the Ansat helicopter in 2020.
An additional fuel tank is designed to increase the ferry range of the helicopter. This option will be in demand when making long-distance flights, for example, when you need to deliver a helicopter to its permanent base. An additional 192-liter fuel tank increases the Ansat's flight range by 140-150 km - up to 650 km.
In addition, from 2021 the Ansat modification with enlarged main fuel tanks will be available to customers. The volume of the main fuel system will be increased by 20 per cent, which will increase the flight range by 135 km. Thus, when using an additional fuel tank on the upgraded Ansat, the maximum flight range will exceed 750 km.
In the future, it is also planned to equip Ansat with a winch and external sling, which this year are being tested at the flight test complex of the Kazan Helicopter Plant. The winch increases the efficiency of the helicopter in search and rescue operations and allows for hovering loading and unloading operations. The device provides lifting and lowering of people and goods with a total weight of up to 272 kg.
The external sling is designed for the carriage of goods weighing up to 1000 kg, while the maximum take-off weight of the Ansat with external sling will be increased to 3900 kg. The suspension also includes a weighing device and a load dumping system.
Ansat is a light twin-engine multipurpose helicopter. It is being produced at the Kazan Helicopter Plant. The helicopter fully certified for both cargo and passenger services. it can carry upto eight people. In May 2015, an addendum to the type certificate for the modification of a helicopter with a medical module was received. Ansat is certified for use in the temperature range from -45 to +50 degrees celsius, as well as for operation at high altitudes. In 2019, the Federal Air Transport Agency certified an increase in the fuselage resource of the Ansat light helicopter to 16,000 hp.
