The makers of AK-47, world’s most used assault rifle, Kalashnikov Concern, during the IDEX-2021, will present AK-19 assault rifle and PLK compact pistol. This is maiden appearance of AK-19 in any international exhibition.

IDEX-2021 is being held from February 21-25 at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“AK-19 is chambered for 5.56x45 round, one of the most popular rifle rounds in the world, which is currently used by NATO countries. Consequently, this new rifle was developed specifically for the export market. “We are confident that presentation of AK-19 at IDEX, a large international exhibition will interest foreign customers, and we are already getting the first requests,” said Dmitry Tarasov, CEO of the Kalashnikov Group.

The rifle is based on the 5.45x39mm AK-12 assault rifle in service with Russian forces since 2018. The gas operated AK_19 fires 5.56x45mm standard Nato ball and comes with modern standard features like picatinny rail, collapsible folding stock, improved sight, detachable suppressor and pistol grip.

At the expo, the company is anticipating good response, as the gun is suitable for the dry, hot and dusty environmental condition of the region. Since its launch in 2019 at Russian expo Army 2020, the rifle has caught attention of the Middle East customers.

Most of the Middle East nations use US made M-16, M1A1 carbine etc which use NATO Ball. Thus, there is ammunition compatibility between AK-19 and current standard issues of nations of the region.

Kalashnikov  feels North Africa and South East Asia are other two potential market for Ak-19.
