India Tests Smart Anti-airfield Weapon

Two flight tests of indigenously-developed smart anti-airfield weapon have been carried out jointly by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Air Force (IAF). The two different configurations based on satellite navigation and electro optical sensors have been successfully tested. Electro optical seeker based flight test of this class of bomb has been conducted for the first time in the country. The electro optic sensor has been developed indigenously.

India approves proposals worth Rs 7,965 crore

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), in its meeting of November 02, 2021 held under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals for modernisation and operational needs of the Armed Forces amounting to Rs 7,965 crore. All of these proposals (100%) are under ‘Make in India’ with focus on design, development and manufacturing in India.

Shipping Minister visits IAC

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways visited the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) ‘Vikrant’ during the ongoing sea trials on 31 Oct 21. The ship had sailed out for the second Sea Trials on 24 Oct 21.

The maiden sea sortie of the ship was successfully undertaken in Aug 21. During the maiden Sea Trials, ship’s performance, including hull, main propulsion, PGD and auxiliary equipment was satisfactory.

Indian Navy receives first of P15B Stealth Destroyers

The lead ship of Project 15B stealth guided missile destroyers, Visakhapatnam (Y 12704) being built at Mazgaon Docks Limited (MDL), was delivered to the Indian Navy on 28 Oct 21. The contract for four ships of Project 15B, as the Visakhapatnam class ships are known, was signed on 28 January 2011. This project is a follow-on of the Kolkata class (Project 15A) destroyers commissioned in the last decade.

DRDO, IAF flight test Long-Range Bomb

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Air Force (IAF) team jointly flight tested indigenously developed Long-Range Bomb (LRB) successfully from an aerial platform on October 29, 2021. The LR Bomb, after release from the IAF fighter aircraft, guided to a land-based target at a long range with accuracy within specified limits. All the mission objectives were successfully met.

India, Israel to Formulate a Ten Year Road Map

India-Israel Joint Working Group (JWG) on Bilateral Defence Cooperation has agreed to form a Task Force to formulate a comprehensive Ten-Year Roadmap to identify new areas of cooperation. 

This was decided at the 15th JWG meeting held on October 27, 2021 in Tel Aviv, Israel. 

The meeting was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar and the Director General of the Israel’s Ministry of Defence, Maj Gen (Retd) Amir Eshel.
