As India deploys its famed marine commandos in Pangong lake region of Ladakh as part of tri-service operations to counter China, Indian Navy is looking for freezing diving suit for its special operation divers.

On October 29, Indian Navy sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) to global vendors for supply of 20 extreme cold water diving suits to allow them to perform optimal at 0-5 Celsius temperature for three hours.

The suit is expected to keep the diver completely dry and should not lose energy or core temperature while performing tasks in freezing temperature. They are expected to be extremely easy to wear with zipper /Velcro arrangement.

The suit will consist of dry suit, thermal protection, gloves and hood. This is to ensure no part of diver body is exposed to water and lose any amount of body heat.

The delivery of suits has to be completed within 180 days of signing of contracts. India Navy is asking for ten years of product support including two years of warranty. According to the RFP document, the bid should be valid for 12 months.  

The suits will be divided equally between Eastern and Western naval Commands.

The bid closes on December 1.
